I am also contemplating breeding Tiger barbs and other barbs..I like them a lot, tiger, green, cherry... But I've never had success breeding them. I have had cherry barbs lay eggs in the past but I wasn't prepared for it and nothing became of it..
Have you ever had any success breeding barbs?

I did! But you know if you like to breed them, you should keep them in the dark. No fun... for you won't be able to see that much but a serious barb breeder will breed them in a dark tank or at least with densed light. The same goes for tetras and such... With too much light it will basically come to just laying eggs and that's it!
The best results I had was keeping them in my outside tanks. It's a more natural biotope to them and with the type of vegetation in there, they reproduced themselves much better than in my inside tanks. And they grow much faster as well. Partially the outside tanks have their dark spots which is of course pretty ideal for them to breed.

Thank you for your input. I think that makes up my mind what I am going to do with the outside tank I wanted to set up. Still not sure about the type I would like to start with. Is there a barb that is more inclined to breed regularly ? My question I suppose boils down to which would be better to start with: Tiger or Cherry? Those are my two preferred types of barbs..
