I personally dont know a whole bunch about Jack Dempseys as I have never kept them, but I looked around a bit on sites I usually frequent and found this: "Digging in mud and sand is a favored pastime of Jack Dempsey cichlids, so for starters, spread a thick, soft, loose substrate such as aquarium sand on the bottom of the aquarium. An inch or two of substrate thickness -- more, if you choose -- will allow the fish to dig happily. Because Jack Dempsey cichlids are territorial and aggressive, it is important to place objects such as flat rocks, driftwood, aquarium caves and overturned flower pots on the substrate to help mark territorial boundaries. The flat rocks are essential during breeding, as the fish will lay their eggs there. The caves and overturned flowerpots will serve as hiding places, letting the fish feel secure. Jack Dempsey cichlids will uproot live plants, but you can add floating plants to the aquarium. These floating plants also will shelter the fish, making it feel safer." pets.thenest.com/recommended-aquarium-setup-jack-dempsey-cichlids-4410.html I think this seems very accurate and I hope it helps

Here is where you can show off your Cichlids! Post and Boast away! I tried to put some pictures of my cichlids, on here but they are all about 1.5mb is there any way I can get around this (I am no computer geek, by any stretch of the imagination, lol) If your pictures are too large you can make them smaller using Microsoft Paint or Adobe Photoshop...but if you are no computer geek, Paint may be best lol Open your photo in paint..at the top of the window you should see (from left to right) your paste/cut/copy options...then select, crop, resize, and rotate. Click resize and you will get another little window. It will give you two different ways to resize, by percentage or pixels. You can mess around with either to see how it works but just dont save until you are sure you have what you want, and then when you do save make sure you do "save as" so it will make a new copy of the picture not just save over the original and you will lose your original. Also make sure you keep "maintain aspect ratio" checked in the little window that pops up. If you need more help please let me know I am more than happy to help
